Hello! My name is Linda Milhem and this video is about what makes Venezuela unique from an architectural perspective? This video will touch these points: color, texture, lighting, acoustic, rhythm, vertical and horizontal circulation and finally space and scale.
First, I will talk about color:
In this images (installations of Carlos Cruz Diez) we can to see how this artist can create different interior spaces only using colors, you don’t need a wall to feel in other space. In this case, he use blue, purple, green and pink lights and in the connection of different colors, these colors are combined. The walls are made of concrete and the intention of this installation is that you have different feelings in the same space with different colors around you. Now I will talk about texture: This is the church "La Virgen del Valle" located in Margarita. The material used is concrete for the structure and glass for the widows. The colors of this church are beige and white. With the concrete the architect generate different textures created by the proximity of certain parts of the facade. I think that this is a very old and conservative style, most churches have this type of structure. At the top we can see big points with waves and lines. The church has a tactile texture and also, you can see quickly the texture effects that it has and the shadows affects that be generate. This sculpture is called "La esfera de Soto" This is made of metal rods and be placed in different positions playing with the sizes, creating a sense of movement and depth. This is a good use of texture because the sensation produced is like an sphere. This effect is primarily a visual texture because it is generated by an illusion.
The light: The bridge General Rafael Urdaneta or bridge over the lake of Maracaibo Is a beautiful representation of the correct use of lighting effects in Venezuelan architecture. This bridge in addition to being the largest of Venezuela looks very beautiful at night. In the image on the left we can see the bridge during the day, its simplicity and size make it a beautiful bridge. In the right image we can see the bridge at night and the lights inside. Definitely is a show! The bridge turn on this lights when starts the night, showing beautiful colors such as blue, purple, yellow and red, and white lights that illuminate the entire route of the bridge. It is certainly a spectacular use of light. The acoustic: The acoustic shell of Bello Monte, located in Caracas Venezuela. This is a place designed for music presentations meanly, its particular shape and beautiful shape, makes the best sound quality and witch extend more. Moreover the sits are placed increasingly for a good sound reception. The rhythm: [[#|Hotel]] VIP Caracas These images are about the VIP [[#|hotel]] located in Caracas, Venezuela. As we can see, this is an example of rhythm in architecture because it has repetitions of shapes and dimensions. The building is composed of intersections of solids (cubes) that are repeated throughout the structure
Loft Q Building This image is the building loft Q, located in Caracas, Venezuela. It is a good example of repetitions of lines and shapes. This building is built with lines and line figures, such as squares. These lines are also present throughout the structure. We can see the Harmony in this structure, since all its elements are properly configured.
Vertical and horizontal circulation: These images are from the Millenium mall, located in Caracas, Venezuela. This mall has a very interesting circulation system . Vertical circulation is done by escalators and lifts. The mall has a big number of elevators and escalators to make it easier and faster the vertical circulation. On the horizontal circulation, the mall has large hallways, in the form of semi-sloping ramps that travel to the building in a rectilinear form; this corridor does not have a specified direction of circulation. Also, it has a very interesting aspect that is the connection between halls on each side of the building, to reach the right side of the building is not necessary to go round, you can pass through the building side to side through a corridor. (As can be seen in the first image) As for the entrance of the building, has two entrances, one from the top floor, the mall is traversed from top to bottom, and the other entrance from approximately half of the building. Both entrances are very spacious and beautiful. Space and scale: The social action center for music, located in Caracas, Venezuela. You can see the images below. In these images we can see that the method of decoration of the space is through art, especially sculpture art and also, related to the purpose of building, which is an art exhibit, music. People who go to this place, have the opportunity to see beautiful floor, full of colors and different techniques. In addition, the furniture decorations are also very important, are in keeping with the decoration around the building. Another example is the correct use of light, in the case of the stage, get more light for the public can clearly see the show. In other words, in every part of this building, the effectors are related to one style and have harmony between them. Moreover, presents focal points in each space that is crossed, these points with those who call more attention. The sculptural part has a specific rhythm in the repetition of straight bars. And finally the decoration presents scale and proportion, proportion has to do with the ratio of one design element to another or one element to the whole. Scale concerns itself with the size of one object compared to another. Conclusion As we can saw, the Venezuelan architecture has all the aspects needed to be considered good architecture. But there is a problem, is that modern architecture in Venezuela in my opinion, can be considered more attractive because it uses more color combination, texture, lighting, acoustics, rhythm, correct circulation, and scale. This architecture is unfortunately not the entire country but only in certain areas. On the other hand, there's oldest areas, which have largely neglected structures and therefore are not as beautiful.
